TAMAN SELINI, new hideaway bungalows in the quiet, unspoiled fishing village of Pemuteran, on the northwest coast of Bali. We are a small group of pioneer developers in Pemuteran who have tried to implement "sensitive tourism" from the outset, by working closely with the village on every level and making sure that local environment and MARINE RESERVE are always looked after. Pemuteran will therefore be protected not only for the benefit of visitors, but also for future generations within the village community.

This is a very personal project started by myself 3 years ago when I bought the land. There was very little tourism at the time and still is and I wanted to build a very small reclusive resort for guests who wanted complete peace in a protected environment. With local architect and designing everything myself with the help of my daughter HYPATIA, a recent graduate of Chelsea School of Design, we envision bungalows built with the local building materials and workmen. We also put together a training programme to teach the unskilled and therefore unemployed people from the village English, service, cleaning and cooking, together with everything they have to know about looking after special guests and attending to their needs.

Therefore, TAMAN SELINI became a very special hotel now run by our Anna and her Balinese husband Ketut. They are more than happy to take time to try and answer any questions guests may have regarding Balinese religion, tradition, and culture and more than happy to take interested guests along to one of one of their many family ceremonies or to festivals at the nearby important temples. Sharing the secrets of preparing real Balinese food on a traditional style wood - fuelled brick stove in the village, or follow Anna and Ketut when they go shopping,  which is their way of giving guests a chance to experience Balinese daily life. Knowing that enjoying good food is essential for guests on holiday, they bring fresh vegetables from their garden in the village or from local markets everyday. Guests can also enjoy western food and as my family is also Greek, Taman Selini serves Greek delicates.
